Still Life Painting

The still life painting is

Slowly surfacing

To the top of

The dappled, sparkling snow.

Clumps of grass

Hide themselves

Like rabbits ‘neath the

Sleeping trees.

Shadows shimmer

To and fro

As a breeze

Flutters softly by.

Birds hop atop

The crusty surface

Leaving tracks

Showing their exploring.

Wings open

Catching cold air

Lifting to a branch

To examine their prizes.

Branches bounce, as they

Crack the precious shells

Of the newly found seeds

And savor the meats within.

Winter blue sky

Smiles on the scene below

Knowing that

Life isn’t still at all.

  2. The poem paints a phonetic picture as vivid as life itself. It draws upon what have experienced in life and allows us to feel and visualize the scene and know that neither are we stationary in time. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Beautiful poem, Dawn. I can just see the images you so deftly portray with your words. I just hope we get some more snow tonight so I can truly see the “dappled, sparkling snow”.

  5. Dawn,
You are doing some great work! Good for you! Hope you have a great new year, but your new years resolution is something you already are doing. You are and have always been a blessing and help to your family, friends and everyone who knows you!!! So I am afraid that you need to come up with something else!!! Keep up the good work my dear friend, and congratulations on what you have already done!!
    With much Love and Affection,
    Your Friend Always,

  6. Nice imagery, my friend. Life is not still and “time waits for no man”, etc. From your title, the first thing that sprang to my mind was, “Yes, I’m still painting a life – mine! It’s kind of splodgy.” BTW we’ve got plenty of snow here in England!

  7. Another work of art ! I was enjoying the sights out my front window – watching squirrels and birds too numerous to count. It looked like what your poem was expressing. The left over snow and ice just beginning to melt didn’t stop the return of our yard pets. We welcome them with several feeders to carry on the tradition of returning future offspring. What better entertainment?
